Duobox vs Proton Mail
Duobox

Encrypted privacy, or email your team and your agent can open

This page is for anyone looking at Proton Mail for their company's email who wants to understand how it differs from Duobox. We read the prices on Proton's official website on 26 October 2026, in dollars.

These are two different ideas of what a company's email is for: Proton is built so that nobody but you can read it. Duobox is built so that your team and your agent can work in it.

Your first inbox is free

With Duobox you start without paying: 1 person, 1 inbox, 1 domain and 10 GB, no card and no time limit. On your domain, open in the browser or in the mail app you already have.

At Proton, business email on your own domain starts at $6.99 per person a month, billed yearly, with 15 GB.

Why encryption and the agent pull in opposite directions

End-to-end encrypted email can only be decrypted on your device. That's the whole idea. But it also means that an agent that lives somewhere else can't read it without going through a piece that decrypts it on your computer.

Duobox chose the other side: email is stored the way Gmail or Outlook store it, which is why an agent can sign in with OAuth, with the permissions you ticked —read, save drafts, send, manage— and nothing more. It's also why someone on your team can open sales@ from any browser and see what the agent did.

Why Duobox

  • You start free

No card, on your domain, starting today.

  • The shared inbox is the centerpiece

Several people handle sales@, and its history doesn't depend on who left.

  • Your agent works in your email, with permissions you can see

Paste https://mcp.duobox.io/v1/mcp into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, sign in with your account, and remove the permissions you don't want.

  • It works with the mail app you already have

With nothing to install in between.

  • More than three times the storage

50 GB per inbox versus 15 GB.

  • Month to month

    Without paying for the year.

  • Two-step verification

With an authenticator app, and the agent never sees your password.

When to choose each one

Duobox

Choose Duobox if you want to start free, your team shares inboxes, and you want an agent that can reply in there with permissions you can see.

Choose Proton if you handle information that not even the provider should be able to read —journalism, healthcare, sensitive legal matters— and end-to-end encryption comes first.

Questions people ask us

Is the first inbox free forever?
Yes, as long as you're one person with one inbox and 10 GB. You only pay once you add someone, a second inbox or more storage.
What do you do with my email?
What we store and why is written down, plainly, in the privacy policy.
Can I bring my email over from Proton?
Not with the import yet: it comes in over IMAP, and Proton only offers that through Bridge on your computer, which we can't reach.
